60's Tablecloth
I love vintage tablecloths and usually go for florals or checks. This one came from the Bargain Bazaar for $1. I think it's from the 60's. It will be nice for the picnic table. For the hair photo's below and this photo I used the built in camera on our Mac. It saves time since I don't have to hook up and download from the camera.
Pictures of my hair
I let somebody new give me my high/lowlights today. The photo's show more of a contrast than really is there. Probably the bad lighting in here. I think it turned out okay although the lowlight turned out more brownish red than I'd like. I had about 3 inches cut off a couple weeks ago too. That should do it for another 3 or 4 months I hope.

A hit!
2008 American Idol
My early prediction is this kid...David Archuleta. I missed his performance last week. He sang "Imagine" tonight and it was one of the better performances I've heard on Idol. He seems like a very neat kid and the girls are in LOVE with him judging by the reaction in the audience. Only 16 years old too. The guys I liked last week didn't do so great tonight. I'm not very impressed with the girls this year.
On another note, I made something new for supper this evening, fish tacos. I enjoy them in restaurants so thought I'd give it a try. Very easy and good! There are recipes all over the internet so I'm not going to post a recipe. Since I'm not married to a fisherman I used Alaskan Pollack from the freezer section and fried that up in a pan with fry magic. I'm having leftovers for lunch at school tomorrow too. Good night! Thrift Store Tour
This is the main room, the front desk is under the clock. Jewelry is to the right of the desk.
This is a peek inside the book room. It needs to be reorganized and new shelves are planned for the other side of the room that is not shown. Spinning racks are there now and look kind of junky. We have a lot of books!
This is the children's room which is behind the front desk. You can see we've run out of hanging space.
This is the kitchen room. Around the corner is a dressing room and another room for men's items and then that leads to working hallway and the sorting room that is lovingly referred to as the "Morgue." It used to be cold and gloomy in there but now with the heater, shelves, island and a coffee pot it's getting rather homey. I'll snap a photo of that room someday.
Here's the other side of the main room. The shelving that you see on the walls were originally used to display eye glasses, now perfect for knick knacks. The only room that I didn't get a picture of is our high end room used for very nice clothing and antiques, linens, purses and anything deemed "frou-frou." It also houses a beautiful hutch for display only. I spent 4 hours working on Saturday. Shirley & Jean were working so we had a lot of fun. I decorated the front window with floral china and books and then worked in the kitchen room reorganizing. Of course I found some fun items, 3 cream cereal/soup bowls, some items for Shari's birthday, and a pretty green checked tablecloth. I brought in a big box of stuff so it's okay. My rule there is that twice as much goes in the store as goes home with me. Oh yes, the banners that you see in the window spell Bargain Bazaar and I made them with wall paper samples. They work well but the condensation has caused some separation I will have to repair.

EASY Chicken Tetrazzini
This actually tastes a lot better than it looks!
1/2 pound cooked/drained spaghetti (I used wheat)
2 cups shredded chicken-cooked of course. (rotisserie leftovers)
1 can cream soup, chicken or celery
1 can sliced mushrooms (optional)
1 can french green beans or asparagus
1 cup water(save from veg.)
2 T butter
1/4 cup chopped onions
1-2 tsp chicken bouillon
1/4 cup cheddar cheese or more!
Seasonings-pepper, herbs of provence or thyme, basil, rosemary
Put cooked spaghetti in a med sized baking dish. Layer chicken on top of spaghetti. In a med saucepan heat butter, onions, then add soup, water, vegetables, mushrooms, and desired seasonings. I use pepper and herbs of P. Last add cheese and stir until melted. Pour over the chicken and bake for 25 mn at 350.
Dan loved it and it made yummy leftovers for lunch. Don't skip the herbs unless you like things a little bland-kids might prefer that too.
Idol-Guys
I see Jen posted on American Idol and we agree on Michael. They finally got to the good part this week. The guys performed last night and we liked Michael Johns (pictured on the bottom) and Jason Castro. I missed David Archuleta's performance but Dan thought it was very good. I was probably cleaning the kitchen or something. There were at least 4 guys that we strongly disliked so I suppose one of them will become this years Sanjaya and annoy me to no end.

Minnesota Denial
Let's pretend we're in Italy instead of the frozen tundra of Mn! Doesn't that image look inviting? I would like a baguette, some good cheese and wine on a sunny lavender covered hill. I'd like a wicker basket & a red checked tablecloth with that too.
The roads were bad on the way home from Cyrus on Sunday. It's just as windy today so Dan decided to work from home. I kept busy working on a recipe book, making another covered notebook and cooking. I watched a lot of TV too, mainly taped shows from the Travel Channel-Rachel Ray travels & Samantha Brown. Currently, we're watching the Mn gal who is on Deal or No Deal. Before we knew she was from Mn, Dan said "she sounds like a Minnesotan." Sure enough! She just won 450,000 and actually did have a million in her case. We can't believe her husband wanted her to risk 1/2 million and go for it though. Anyone else watch it tonight?
Stay warm and have a good week.~Laurie

Hungry Baby
Gracie has discovered the pleasures of fruits and vegetables. I tried feeding her later and she would have none of that.
Gracie's new trick
Valentine's Spread
We had a rather pretty spread at our 4th grade Valentine Party. There were pretzels and pop too. One of the moms brought Mountain Dew! That was a hit as it usually is forbidden. :) We had orange pop too without caffeine. It was kind of cute as one girl said sorry, I'm not allowed to have MD. There's an honest kid for you! Aren't those Valentine cookies just too cute? The same mom who brought the pumpkin cookies on a stick for the Halloween party brought these and I had to snap a close-up. They tasted delicious too. She used to have a cookie business and it shows. We had a healthy treat planned (apples) but one of the kids was absent and the other forgot. Oh well.

A Quick Hello!
Hi there! Just a quick note to let you know that I am still blogging. I've just been rather busy with school. We had conferences a couple evenings last week and am now reaping the benefits with a lovely 4 day weekend. I've also been lazy about downloading my photos so I have no pictures of my own to share with you just other cute ones I found online. Aren't the red shoes darling? Royce, Lynn & Gracie are in Cyrus so we are getting ready to go there. I'll probably post later this weekend. Enjoy the rest of yours! ~Laurie

Home for the weekend
We are here....
wish we were there!
We decided to stay put for the weekend after all. The blizzard warning for our part of the state convinced us that would be the best option. After doing some research online I discovered many shops and restaurants up near Breezy Point are closed for the winter season and with outdoor activities being severely limited we decided "what's the point?" It is pretty nasty out there right now. We have lots of wind and enough snow so that we can't see across the lake. I'm going to try to finish reading Plain Truth and start Joy Luck Club for Book Club. Plain Truth is getting pretty drawn out and I still have a good chunk to go. It's a 400 pg book and I'm on 250. Dan just read Into The Wild after seeing the movie this week out in SF. He loved the book and the movie. Anyone else read that one? I will eventually since we have it now.
What is everyone else doing on this wintery weekend?

Yeah February!
I'm so glad January is behind us. I was very dismayed to hear that we have yet another cold snap ahead of us this weekend. We're using our free vacation from the cabin purchase this weekend up in Breezy Point. Shari, Paul and kids were going to join us but changed their minds due to the forecast. Very understandable as it will prevent many of the outdoor activities that we planned. Even shopping is not as much fun when you're hopping in and out of a cold car. We still plan to go and my plan is to crank up the heat and keep their fireplace running while I drink wine and read some magazines and books. We're only using 3 days of a 7 day free lodging coupon. We couldn't find anything(very limited options) else so decided just to use it up in Mn instead of letting the expiration date run out. It looks like a nice cozy cabin so I'm looking forward to our little get-away.
We have conferences on Thursday night and again on Monday. Then we get a 4 day weekend with President's day and our comp day! Since we haven't had a snow day we get to keep Pres. Day off. We don't build snow days in anymore which puzzles me, especially since we don't have a spring break. I feel like we're being punished if we have a snow day. We lose Easter Monday if we have a snow day after President's Day. Isn't that nice? We like early outs and late starts at my school. :) It's that crabby time of year at my school where everyone who goes some place warm for awhile comes back refreshed, tan & happy. Those of us who aren't going anywhere warm just get crankier. I am happy that I am going somewhere this weekend even if it is further north instead of south. Have a good rest of the week! ~Laurie
