Cabin down the road~

Here's a cabin down the point that was on the market for close to 3 years. Rumor is that a couple from the cities bought it and there's a lot of progress going on down there. Many of you have peeked into the windows with me and admired all the lovely woodwork inside. The outside, however, was not so pretty. You can see that the new roof and soffits are complete. They tore off the metal awnings and wide 60's siding. It will be interesting to see what color siding they choose. I hope they add some cute window boxes!!!

Kris's fancy chickens...

Aren't they pretty?
The speckled black hens are my favorite.
They are tame and come to Kris when she calls, especially for treats.
Kris said that if you are carrying a white bag, they will all come running to you. Tami, who isn't a big fan of chickens, learned this the hard way. I'd better warn Mom.
There are a couple of handsome roosters in the flock.

They produce about 2 dozen eggs per day. Ironically, Kris and Gary don't eat eggs, so she is very generous with them. She sent me home with this carton. I liked that they even came with some straw and the colors are wonderful.I got home and fried some eggs for lunch! I thought Odin's party was today, but was a week early. Kris and I had coffee together instead and I had fun taking pictures of her gorgeous chickens. See you again next Saturday, Kris!

Signs down the Point

This is Junior's sign-perfect for him. Isn't his cabin the best? It's exactly what I picture in my mind as a perfect Mn cabin. Last summer they changed the wood siding to vinyl but they matched the color perfectly so you'd never notice.

They may not be smart, but they're fast!

rip-rap

Here's a good look at the new rocks. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the look of the rip rap, even though I knew we needed to do it to protect the shoreline. Well, I really like it already. The big rocks at the bottom are great for sitting on and dangling your feet in the water and it will also make it easier to get down into the water from the dock or vice-a-versa. It also allowed us to put our dock out a few feet deeper which should make putting the boat in and out easier.

New Plants!

We have a lot of wild columbine growing around the house. I let it be where ever it chooses to grow because it's pretty and a great natural food source for hummingbirds that lasts well into June. No hummingbirds here yet. I had some feeders ready but the woodpeckers drank all the sugar water. They have a sweet tooth.
My little grape hyacinths are doing well this year.
Not sure if these are violets or trillium or something else....
Look at Junior's rhubarb already!!!!
He is always so good to share this one with me.

I'm so happy my lamb's ears are flourishing!

Jumping into Spring!

Just some images I've collected from the web lately. If that kitten photo doesn't make you smile, nothing will! I love it.

This picture is from the 40's. These are children from France watching a puppet show. I think it so sweet and I like how the little guy in the middle is holding the hand of the boy next to him. He reminds me of Joey.
Have a beautiful Sunday!

Spring is popping up!

These pictures were taken on Saturday. I think the plants would love some new dirt here.
The Lily of the Valley really took off after the rain. A week ago, there was no evidence of them.
Kris, I think you gave this to me last year. It looks like a peony, am I right? I have chives coming up all over the place, the oregano survived another winter too. I'm also pleased to see that the lamb's ears are back. It's a fun time of year for gardeners. Especially fun when you forgot what you added the previous year!!!!

Decorating-Chairs

I'm sewing new slipcovers. The last step will be to add a 6 inch white skirt that will go all the way around. I haven't decided if it will just be gathered or maybe a box pleat would be nice. I used some of this fabric to sew a little valance for the kitchen window too. I think it's a summery look and the stripes should work well with all the florals I tend to use.

Loons Last Night

We have a few loons hanging around this spring. This pair came close enough to make me run for the camera. I still had to crop the pictures a lot to bring them in. There was a lot of wing flapping going on and they made the best pictures.

Sunsets in late March

It began like this and then turned to this...
The sky looked like it was on fire this night.

Waiting for summer...

Ice Out Pictures 2010

Slushy ice all over except in the distance where it is open. It always opens up there first and then expands north and south. The wind really helped things along this year.

By April 1st the ice was officially gone.

Glee and Thunderstorms

Always good advice! :)

I watched Glee tonight and I'm a fan! I enjoyed them on Oprah last week and that motivated me to finally watch. The music was great!! Shelly, I made need to borrow Season 1 when it's available.

I thought the thunderstorm last night was wonderful! I woke up a couple of times, was happy to hear the rain and went promptly back to sleep-luckily for me. The perennials loved the inch they received here and the tree buds should burst out soon. Ahhhh, spring!

Gardening Inspiration

I was looking at Andy's website and ran across this gorgeous house and gardens. Sadly, the owner passed away, Ken Anderson, who owned a nursery and hostas were his expertise. He developed new varieties too. The nursery is for sale with the property. Mom and I used to go there often but it's been a couple of years now since I was there. Aren't these pictures stunning? I need to add more impatiens & begonias for color along borders like they have done or put elevated pots among the hostas. I'm still planning on doing red and pinks. The hostas are just beginning to poke up, if we get some rain in the next 48 hours that would be very welcome. I can't wait!

These pictures are just breathtaking! It looks like they were taken at the Arboretum.

Encore-Las Vegas 2010

We absolutely loved the Encore. In this picture, we are at the Wynn pool with the Encore in the background. You can see one of the darling cabanas above Beth's forehead. It was so nice to see green again!
The Fashion Show Mall is right across the street-normal shopping here, they even have a Payless. Kinda looks like a spaceship has landed!
One of the pretty cabanas at the Wynn.
Our room-we were VERY pleased!
The TV turned from the living room area to the bedroom. Nice!
This wall (above) looks like a mirror, but it was a floor to ceiling window-great view of the strip.
The bathroom was beautiful.
Hallway to the bathroom, closets and entrance. I liked all the black.

Are we in Vegas or Hawaii???

Walking down the Encore/Wynn "hallway" that they call the Esplanade.
Butterflies are the theme at the Encore.

Beautiful tiled artwork in the Esplanade/Passage to the Wynn.
We were on the 7th floor and this is the elevator area on our floor.
The cabana at the Wynn. Our pool chairs were right here on Friday-loved this view.
Took this picture right after we met Beth & Rusty.
