TV Shows

This picture has nothing to do with this post.

Are you excited to watch GLEE tonight? I am!! I've also been taping the new NATE show, it's on Fox Ch 9, and I am so-so on that one. He's had some good interviews but he is really dragging things out to fill out an hour. I'll probably keep recording it but thank goodness for fast forward. We're enjoying Mad Men of course. True Blood is over now and the new season won't be out until next summer! That seems ages away. We watched the debut of Boardwalk Empire on HBO on Sunday and that was excellent! Glad to have a new one. It's starts during prohibition and Jimmy Hoffa is just a young kid right now. I'd better go get some work done so I can turn into a couch potato in an hour. What are you watching at your house this fall?

Inspiring Images

OK-this one's just cute!

Great Light Fixture!!!

I absolutely love this ceiling light. This is not my photo-it's from another blog. They just got it at Lowe's for $40!! Thought I would post this just in case anyone is looking for something on this order. I think it's a great price for a vintage look.

Darling Tiny Cottage

It's so cute!!!

I found these images somewhere on a blog, originally from a magazine I think.
Doesn't this look cozy? I like her green sweater and she stole my green plaid picnic basket! I wonder if hers is rusted on one side too...
When it's NOT raining, isn't fall the best?!

Welcome to my Classroom

The moose that Jen made for us now resides in my classroom. As soon as you walk in the door you see him and this year I'm making him hold our passes too. The kids like him!
I love finding new books for our classroom. This year I have more time to organize them by authors and subjects as you can see in the following picture.
The tag on the Eiffel tower says that "books can take you anywhere." The tower lights up!
This is the science corner, lots of nature books and the fish tank will go on this shelf too along with some plants.
The Smart Board and I have a new sound system with two microphones-love it!

Around the house...

Close-up/new drapes
I found the almost perfect drapes for our living room at the Bargain Bazaar on Saturday. If they were longer they'd be perfect as I like them to go up to the ceiling. It brings your eye up and makes your room seem bigger. But for just $12 for 4 of them, I can live with these. I love the color and the pattern. They've been bare since the remodel and I've just been keeping my eye out for something.
The other pair went behind the French doors. I had older curtains here and they were gold. Now you can see that I need some door knobs!
Fall is on its way! These two trees are always the first to lose their leaves. Beautiful Saturday and Sunday here after a very rainy week.
Hope you got a little nap time in your weekend!

An Owl for Shari

Shari likes owls so I thought I'd better pick up this pin at the Bargain Bazaar. I thought he was kind of cute.
When I got him home, I discovered he had a fun little surprise! I think it would be neat to take the perfume out and put a little picture in there.

First Day of School

I have had a total of 41 first days of school! Wow. Today was definitely one of the exceptional ones. If it was another one of your first days today, I hope it was a good one for you too.
One of nice things that happened today was finding out that my student aid for the entire year is a former first grade student. Sarah is a senior now and she was ready to start today. She is such a hard worker and so efficient. I had an awesome student aid last year but I had to share her. This year I have Sarah all to myself. It makes a big difference in my day.
I had a meeting after school at the BB. I'm helping with the November Style Show. Met Mary for birthday coffee after that and a fun little birthday exchange. She's keeping very busy in her retirement but I know today was not easy for her.
I stopped at the library too and was very excited to see that The Reading Zone by Nancie Atwell was waiting for me, can't wait to start that tonight. Our book club selection this month is Alice I Have Been, about the real life model for Alice in Wonderland. That's all I know about that one. Well, I'd better plan out tomorrow and then start reading. Thanks for the decorating advice-I hope I will get a few more comments.(Annette and Becky I appreciate your advice via email.) I am doing nothing for now. :) Good night!

Saturday

Warren, Ann, Andrew & Sarah came over on Saturday for dinner and a bon-fire. It was a cool and totally calm evening so conditions were perfect. Before it got late, we had fun taking some pictures and I played around on Picnik.com with the top photo. Didn't it turn out nice?
I think the one just above or below would make a nice Christmas card-maybe both!
I love this one!

This one too!

We bought a portable fire pit (on clearance!) at Fleet Farm last week and used it for the first time. It's really for the cabin but we're using up here for awhile. Saturday was the best day of the weekend.

Decorating Advice Requested

I've had this pine hutch for almost 15 years. I purchased it at Arnquists while they still had the Hoffman store. I miss that place. Anyway, I ordered it with a whitewash finish and I'm tired of that look. It just looks blah there. I still love the piece, just want to paint it. I think black would work OR maybe a deep red with black brushed over it to antique it. Becky, you have a red piece that I just love in your LR, do you think that would work here? What color is your big hutch in your living room? Does anyone have any other ideas? It has wood knobs, I could change those too. Please tell me what you think! The wall behind it is a neutral olive green. Maybe you think I should leave it, you can tell me that too. :)

Baggallini!!

I purchased this at a used clothing/accessories section of an antique store for $6. It appears to never have been used. It's quite the organizer and even holds my Ipad, I checked before I purchased it as I had the Ipad with me. Nancy, do you own this purse? It seemed familiar to me. I went to Ebay and the Baggallini purses sell fairly high. They were asking $40 for one like this with the tags. A used one was up to $22 last time I checked with about 10 bids. I almost didn't buy it but am glad I did.

Decorating for Fall

It definitely feels like fall and yesterday I went to my fall decorating tub and started pulling out a few things. Last year I wasn't able to decorate for fall due to the remodeling. This year I'm enjoying it again. Here are a few things that I've done so far.
I worked at the BB for a couple of hours last week and picked up an old frame for 75 cents. I framed a vintage butterfly picture from a calendar and that was it, no painting or anything.
The fireplace mantel has been pretty nature themed for the past year. Most of the white pottery came from a Hibbing rummage sale a year ago. The one on the left is one that Mom gave me.
This basket was a little boring until I placed a black fall serving tray underneath. I love those vintage trays, so functional!
I put the seashells away and replaced it with this. It needs a lace runner or something as it looks a little bare. The leaves are a little fake but I can live with it.
The candle on the left is battery operated and has a very realistic glow. The one on the right is from Sue Miller's wedding. They had them on the tables and she let us take one home. Did you get one Charice? They're kind of a fire hazard, so I use with great caution. I would never burn this one so close to that ribbon. I love birch accents. The embossed metal leaf holds a tealight and I got it at a rummage sale years ago. Would never actually burn that here either!

IPad

This has been occupying much of my spare time lately. It's the base model with 16 GB and so far has met all of my needs. I've learned how to download and remove photos, music too. I can only connect to the internet with wireless but have found that many places have free wifi! That includes my school but so far nobody has been able to access at that site so when they get the bugs worked out I should be able to use it at school too. I used it at workshops to take notes and it has a great organizer/calendar. We synched it to our home email so it's great for checking email away from home too. At home, I like being able to access cooking websites like allrecipes in my kitchen. No more running back and forth to the TV room or need to print recipes. I have to say that I really love my Ipad.
