Before/After Kitchen

So, here it is.  I really like how it brightened up the space.  It does look rather plain to me now but I'll get used to it.  I'm not sure if I will keep the red at the end of the kitchen wall but for now it's fine.  Any ideas?  Do you think the soffits look strange white or is it okay?

The old look.

When I look at this picture I see so much stuff.  I think I need to go in the kitchen right now and take down/remove at least 10 items.

Boots and painting plans

These boots came from the Bargain Bazaar a couple of weeks ago- just $2!! They will be great for yard work.   I think they're kind of cool.
I am priming and painting the red soffits above the cabinets in the same color that is on the cabinets.  I'm hoping it will lighten up the space and make it feel bigger.  I liked the red but it's time for a change.  When my batteries recharge, I will post a new picture so you can compare.  I did a bunch of decluttering too.    Did anyone catch the Oprah show last week with the "Clutter Bugs?"  I have been pretty good about getting rid of items lately, but I still have some problem areas to deal with.

Good Things...

Cozy socks, coffee, bread, homemade jelly and honey-doesn't this picture just make you want to lounge?  All that's missing is something good to read.  Hope your day is full of things that make you happy.

Happy Belated Dan!

Some of you posted birthday greetings to Dan last week.  That was very nice of you!  His birthday was on the 12th, same as Lincoln.  I thought you might like to see a shot of Dan in his Mpls office.   This was taken a few years ago.  When he looks out his window he can see the Mary Tyler Moore statue on Nicollet mall.

A Drawing!

I've seen drawings on other blogs and think it's a fun idea.  This is my first official blog drawing. I made these Valentine earrings this afternoon.  If you would like a chance to win them, just leave a little comment on this post and your name will be entered into my drawing on Wednesday night at 9pm.  I will send them out in Thursday's mail so maybe you will get them on Valentine's Day.   I will contact you if I need your address.  The clear crystal beads are from a vintage necklace purchased at the Cyrus Bazaar.  Hypo allergenic steel posts.

Pretty things

I'm off to a bad start in February with the blog.  Kind of a busy week getting ready for conferences on Thursday night.  On Monday, Annette, Becky and I had a wonderful evening at Shirley T's house.  Shirley made a tasty chicken casserole and the rest of us brought a side dish.  It had been way too long since all of us had been together and I for one had such a nice time.  Shirley's house is so lovely.  I will have to take photo's the next time I'm there so you can see for yourself.  It's been 3 years since her fire I think.
I love the kitchen pictured above.  One of my favorite things is the bag hanging on the chair-it came from Target according to the owner a couple of years ago-darn it.
Primroses are so darn cute-I usually buy them this time of year at Home Depot.  These unfortunately, are not mine.
What a fun and pretty idea! Juju candy hearts would be pretty.  I may have to go to the BB this week and try to find something for the paras in my room or maybe our wonderful school secretary.  Of course, I could probably find items in my own cupboard-it's just that I get attached! :)

Darlene's Party

Many of the Smiths gathered in Sioux Falls on Saturday afternoon to celebrate Darlene's 75th birthday at Spezios, a new Italian restaurant.  Jim, Darlene, Tim, Deb, Tyler, Mike, Jimmer, Jamie, Sam, Ted, Pam, Jen, Courtney, Kelsey, Dan and I all enjoyed a great meal and coffee and ice cream afterwards at Tim & Deb's house.  The temperature in Sioux Falls was in the 50's so we loved that.  Pam and I took a nice little walk- the kids too but they were running and at least a block ahead of us.
Thanks Tim, Deb and Jen for organizing a lovely afternoon!
One end of the table...
Jen & girls...
and the other end of the table.  I'm so bummed that this turned out blurry-it would have been a great photo.  I was very low on batteries so I couldn't take many photo's.  Oh well, you get the idea!

Today we are enjoying all the sunshine pouring in our south windows.  Greg, Melissa, Hannah and Axel are coming later this afternoon for the Super Bowl.  We're having appetizers and chili.

Since it's February, we decided the Christmas tree should come down.  We usually keep it up through January since the lights are pretty/cheery in the long winter nights.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday....I have to admit I barely know who's playing!!  There's always the commercials. :)

Last Sunday

Mom and Dad came over for supper last Sunday.  We had a very nice evening!
